Business Origin Stories Series: Totteanna Shanklin

Sponsored by: Truist Bank

The DEC Network: We got a chance to catch up with Totteanna Shanklin, founder of XOLi Pro, a software company founded in 2021.

The DEC Network: Here are a few questions we asked Totteanna.

The DEC Network: What inspired you to start a business?

Totteanna: “I was inspired to create XOLi Pro by my own experiences as a suite renter. [Since] I am creative at heart, I often prioritized the creative side of my business over the operational side and as a result, I made poor financial decisions that ultimately stunted the growth of my business.”

The DEC Network: Thank you for being so open about your challenges. Tell us a little more about your business.

Totteanna: “XOLi Pro is a software platform that leverages A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) to help suite renters better understand their numbers in order to maximize profitability, streamline client interactions, and find community [regardless] of location.”

The DEC Network: Couple more questions! What does your day-to-day work life look like and what’s next for you and your business?

Totteanna:  “As the founder of a pre-revenue and pre-launch startup, my day-to-day roles are varied. I am responsible for facilitating the development of our product, from concept to launch, [so this can] include researching, designing, and setting up meetings to check [product development progress]. [Additionally,] my team and I are focused on creating meaningful connections and building relationships in hopes to foster community and better understand the needs of our users. Lastly, a big portion of my time goes to seeking non-dilutive capital, such as grants, pitch competitions and accelerator programs, to further strengthen and expand my business.

In the upcoming years, I see Xoli continuing to grow and expand. I envision Xoli becoming the leading provider of innovative solutions for the entire salon suites ecosystem. I also see Xoli increasing its customer base and expanding into new markets.”

The DEC Network: It was amazing to chat with Totteanna and learn more about her story and business.
